Brian Tenorio gives a talk at the Ayala Museum about how we can save and bring to life once again the slowly diminishing shoe industry in the Philippines.

There is hope, Brian says, with the entry of new designers with young and fresh ideas, and Brian only hopes to encourage even more designers and entrepreneurs to come into the trade and breathe new life unto it.

Tools of the trade. Shoe making tools and the shoelast with the leather already molded on to it.

Part of the talk was a live demo of how leather is molded on to a shoelast, a task requiring a lot of skill and muscle to get done. Here is Mang Fred, one of Brian’s trusted shoemakers, showing us how it’s done.
